UBC–NRC and C-CORE Collaborative Visit to St. John’s, Newfoundland 

St. John’s, NL – October 16–17, 2025 – Pacific Rim Initiative for Sustainable Marine Systems (PRISMS) Co-Lead Dr. Rajeev Jaiman and Dr. Jon Mikkelsen from the University of British Columbia (UBC) visited St. John’s to strengthen national partnerships in marine and Arctic research.

The visit included productive discussions at the National Research Council (NRC) Ocean, Coastal and River Engineering (OCRE) Centre, where the teams explored a formal UBC–NRC research partnership agreement in ocean science and engineering. The collaboration will focus on digital twins for marine systems, hydrodynamics and cavitation studies, ship–ice interactions, and integrated experimental–numerical testing connecting UBC’s forthcoming Intelligent Marine Tank with NRC’s Arctic and towing tank facilities.

The delegation also met with C-CORE leadership to explore joint initiatives on Western Arctic infrastructure, ice resilience, and sustainable shipping corridors—aligning with PRISMS’ vision of a resilient and secure ocean economy. C-CORE is a Canadian non-profit organization that provides research-based advisory services and technology solutions to national and international clients in the natural resources, energy, security, and transportation sectors. This visit marked a key milestone in strengthening national linkages between UBC’s West Coast research ecosystem and leading Atlantic institutions, advancing Canada’s leadership in sustainable marine systems.
